Four years ago, 21-year-old AnnaLynne McCord scored a part coveted by young actresses far and wide: the starring role on 90210, The CW's reboot of the beloved '90s high school drama. But AnnaLynne never equated personal success with the fame, fans, and media attention that came with her lead role in the series. Her passion and priority is her advocacy work for women's organizations such as Somaly Mam, a nonprofit organization that aims to end human trafficking and empower survivors. AnnaLynne's best known for role as Naomi Clark, but she's nothing like her privileged, melodramatic character. We spoke to AnnaLynne about her interest in creative writing, plans for new acting projects, and commitment to philanthropy.

Can you tell us what's coming up on this season of 90210?
"We just hit our hundredth episode, and it's airing towards the end of the year. The title is 'We're Not Not in Kansas Anymore,' which I think is hilarious. It shows an alternate reality of 90210: what if Naomi didn't have any money? She's supposed to be shopping at Marshall's and Loehmann's trying to replicate all of her looks, and she's a real estate agent. It's really funny."

What can we expect from Naomi and Max this season?
"Naomi and Max start off a little rocky because his business partner can't stand the idea of Naomi and Max being married. Naomi is trying desperately to win his approval?there's an episode in which I'm dressed as Princess Leia. They let me do some fun stuff! We also have his former fianc?e coming back to add a little drama."

We heard you have a few new projects lined up, including Officer Down and Scorned. What are they about?
"Officer Down is a cool art piece. I play a character named Zanna, who's a Russian dancer. My character is dead, and her plays in flashbacks from my journal. Stephen Dorff, Stephen Lang, Dominic Purcell are all in it?all guys and then me! Scorned is awesome. I met [actress] Viva Bianca on set, and she's now my best friend in real life. Billy Zane plays my boyfriend, and he cheats with my character's closest friend. Terrible, right? It's a modern take on Misery (Stephen King's thriller)."

You've partnered with Somaly Mam to raise awareness about sex trafficking. When did this cause become important to you?
"I was at drama school in New York when I was seventeen, and my acting partner at the time was involved in anti-trafficking humanitarian efforts. It was one of those things that you learn about, and then you can't forget what you've heard. It wasn't until I was out in L.A. several years later and becoming successful and being offered 90210 that I got involved with Somaly Mam. When I got offered 90210, I didn't want to take the role. I wanted to leave L.A. and get back to New York?I wasn't prepared for the attention and the egocentric 'me, me, me' that came with the show. I called my friend from acting school because I was freaking out, and she said to use the show as a platform. Every time you want to elevate yourself, you elevate the cause."

"I accepted the role on 90210 so that it could be a launch pad and a platform for raising awareness about women's equality issues that I care about. But it's allowed me to connect with the show's demographic?my fans?on a very different level. We're the generation that's going to see this change happen, and it's imperative that young actors speak out and serves as good role models."

How do you support Somaly Mam?
"I'm active on Twitter. I asked fans to donate to this cause on my birthday, and we raised $25,000 one year! I go to the Somaly Mam events and hold my own gatherings. And in my off time, the first thing I do is jump on a plane to see the girls who benefit from Somaly Mam's foundation. In December, we're going to the Cambodian beaches."

What do you want to pursue next?
"I want my next piece to be a fun action film. Or I might just take the hiatus from 90210 and do some writing on the side. I do quite a bit of creative writing for fun, like write thesis papers. I started a women's group that comes over to my house every two weeks, and we'll discuss philosophical topics."
