Station North Arts and Entertainment Inc. begins work on new HQ ...

Construction began Monday to transform the former site of a New York Fried Chicken at the corner of N. Charles St. and North Ave. into the new headquarters of Station North Arts and Entertainment Inc., as well as the new performance space for the Annex Theater.

To fund the construction, the nonprofit Station North group, which administers the arts district situated just north of Penn Station, raised more than $11,000 through a Kickstarter campaign.

Ben Stone, who is one year into his tenure as the executive director of Station North Arts and Entertainment Inc. told the Baltimore Business Journal that ?renovations should be complete by the end of January.? What could cause a moving delay, Stone said, is ?obtaining a use and occupancy permit from the city.?

As Technically Baltimore reported in September, 2012 has been a landmark year for Station North, as it completed the first city-sanctioned public mural project, Open Walls Baltimore, and celebrated 10 years since being officially designated an arts district by the state.

In the September Q&A, Stone said that Station North is ?really poised,? and could be a neighborhood where ?quite a few? new families move into as Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake continues pushing her goal of having 10,000 new families move into Baltimore in the next decade.
