Purpose of Position: Provide administration, architecture and design for complex multi-cluster virtual server environments at UT Austin. Leverage skills and experience to solve complex technical problems by using or developing advanced concepts, with a full understanding of industry practices and campus policies and procedures.
Essential Functions: With minimal supervision, execute enterprise scale virtual infrastructure designs and implementations that support university academic and business objectives. Define and implement disaster recovery and business continuity policies, including VMWare Site Recovery Manager, and ensure DR compliance for virtualization environments. Provide primary support for server and desktop virtualization platforms. Provide technical leadership in resolution of highly complex issues involving virtual infrastructure and related technical domains. Define and implement virtualization infrastructure monitoring capability, including VMWare Virtual Center Operations. Design and implement pro-active capacity planning process and on-demand capacity reporting for virtualization infrastructure. Ensure that virtualization platform performance is aligned to University business processes and usage peaks. Integrate with network team to support virtual networking infrastructure including configuration and support of Cisco Nexus 1000v switch. Integrate with Storage team to optimize storage performance and configuration. Optimize environment procedures with automation via scripting tools including PowerShell. Assist with review and recommendation of emerging virtualization technologies in clear alignment with current and emerging university academic and business processes. Demonstrate exceptional collaborative skills, building relationships within the infrastructure team and across the university. Provide mentorship to support staff.

Qualifications:?
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree. 5 years of experience with server virtualization technology including VMWare ESX with extensive experience in leading the support and capacity planning needs of virtualized infrastructures. 5 years of experience supporting Windows and Linux servers at enterprise scale. Comprehensive understanding of critical enterprise infrastructure components including datacenter, networking, DNS, DHCP, and SAN Storage. Project management skills and ability to lead large, complex technical projects. Record of developing project charters, timelines, technical deliverables, resource allocation, and task delegation. Record of timely completion of project milestones. Excellent customer focus and interpersonal skills. Record of successful documentation and communication coordination for virtual infrastructure events and procedures. Record of leading efficiency improvements and implementation of policies and procedures for virtualized server environments including scripting via PowerShell. Record of successful disaster recovery and business continuity design and implementation. Demonstrated experience in leading diverse technical projects. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications: VCP, MCSE, and RHCE certifications. Storage Administration experience. Network Administration experience. Graduate degree in computer science or related field.
